Cycle 170km My Way for Cancer Care West
Cancer Care West is a registered charity ( CHY 11260) providing community based practical and emotional support services to anyone whose life has been affected by a cancer diagnosis throughout the west and northwest of Ireland, supporting patients from Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, Galway, Roscommon, Clare and Donegal.
Our vision is that no one will go through cancer alone.
Our residential facility, Inis Aoibhinn located on the grounds of UHG provides accommodation to cancer patients travelling from the west and north west to Galway for Radiotherapy treatment in the hospital. Inis Aoibhinn has 33, twin bedded rooms where each patient can stay with a family member or friend, for the duration of their Radiotherapy treatment, usually 6-8 weeks. The lodge consistently operates at almost 100% occupancy levels and accommodates approximately 330 patients a year and provides over 8,500 bed nights a year for patients and their family members.
Cancer Care West’s two Cancer Support Centres located in Galway and Letterkenny provide professional practical, psychological and emotional support to patients and their families during and after their cancer treatment. The centres are staffed by clinical and counselling psychologists, oncology nurses and a number of professionals with expertise in cancer care.
Our Centres offers information, counselling, peer networking, practical classes and therapies free of charge for patients and families from all over the west and northwest of Ireland. Our team of psychologists, counsellors, oncology nurses and cancer support specialists provide support to adults, families and children throughout their cancer experience. The centre is open five days per week and you can drop in without an appointment. All series are also provided online.
All our services are free of charge.
